DIY: Kitchen Table

It is hard for me to say "no" to free furniture so when my parents offered Hubs and I their old kitchen table, we jumped at the opportunity to do our first big DIY project. It took us a total of two complete days to finish it. Hubs was a slave driver. Who knew that sanding off the old stain would take so long? Not this girl. I did most of the painting while he did most of the sanding.

Excuse the terrible quality of the first photos. This is how we got the chairs and table

At work

This was my painting station that my Dad set up for me

Finally ready to stain

We are super happy with how it turned out. We ended up staining the top, painting the base and chairs, and I picked out fabric and recovered the seats. I ended up buying a good amount of fabric before I officially decided on this fabric

We weren't sure how we would like the two colors but I think it fits our style well

And the whole picture

We used a dark walnut stain for the top, vanilla spray paint for the legs, and some kind of brown for the chairs (this is the beginning of you knowing that I have a terrible memory). I rubbed stain in all of the cracks so that it would look a little less freshly painted and a little more worn. A little bit of sweat and hard work and we have a kitchen table that cost us a little less than $100.

What do you think?
